How It Started . . .

Many decades ago, after graduating college with a degree in physics, the I decided to create an independent science fiction film about asteroid miners meeting aliens from another star system. This movie was originally filmed in 1982 and was  originally entitled: The Gammelgormium Incident. The resulting (somewhat disappointing) production caused me to abandon filmmaking entirely and pursue a career in engineering. Decades later, I began to toy with the idea of remaking the film as an animated feature (either as a cartoon or cgi film) and began to create digital sets for that purpose.  I played around with animation in the trailer for my novel Journey to the Middle of the Magic which can be viewed on this website. It was that work that made me realize that creating such a film for The Gammelgormium Incident would take one person a very long time. then I came up with the idea of turning live actors into cgi objects and putting them into the digital sets. No layering would be required, and the entire film could be rendered into the final result. Using this technique I would have some hope of completing the film in a reasonable amount of time. The new production was originally planned as a 20-minute short, but after five days of live filming, and over two years of post-production (CGI), the film ended up as an 80-minute full length feature film.

The Plot:

Asteroid miners Moreland Zin and Sam Lightborn (of the mining ship Rockhound) set out to investigate the strange disappearance of their eccentric friend (and fellow asteroid miner) Abram T. Ferman. Abram has inexplicably vanished after stealing a spaceship to continue his  search for the legendary Gammelgormium Asteroid, a mysterious rock rumored to be filled with exotic super-heavy stable elements. What follows is a suspenseful game of cat and mouse with a race of technologically advanced reptilian aliens, who have recently entered the solar system. It’s a tale of high adventure in interplanetary space where the future of the entire human race is at stake.
